State Reports
Ohio
by Mary Lynn Perry, OASFAA President

The newly 2005-06 elected officials were announced at the OASFAA Spring Conference in Akron, Ohio this past May, as well as the passing of the gavel from Mark Bandre’ to Mary Lynn Perri. The elected positions of the 2005-06 Executive Committee are:

President Mary Lynn Perri, Ursuline College
President-Elect Claudia Wenzel, John Carroll University
Past President Wendell Schick, Ohio Northern University
VP for Conferences Angela Johnson, Cuyahoga Community College
VP for Training Randy Ulses, University of Cincinnati
Secretary Emily Swain, Mt. Union College
Treasurer Betsy Johnson, Owens Community College
Treasurer-Elect Stephanie Sutton, Lorain County Community College
NE Regional Rep Jason Florack, Baldwin-Wallace
NW Regional Rep Robin Belleville, Owens Community College
SE Regional Rep Jo Slade, Ohio State University
SW Regional Rep Doran Brock, University of Cincinnati Raymond Walters College

These representatives, in addition to all OASFAA committee chairs, met in June for a planning and transition meeting. All are ready to begin a very busy new year focused on Professional Development and Leadership training for our members, which numbered just over 800 this past year.

The Executive Committee would also like to extend a farewell and much thanks to Mark Bandre’ for his service to our association over the past years as well as his service to MASFAA and the Reauthorization Committee. Mark has accepted a new position as Director of Financial Aid at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and will begin his duties there in late August. We wish Mark all the best! As indicated above, Wendell Schick will take Mark’s role of Past-President for the 2005-06 year.

OASFAA is gearing up for its fourth College Goal Sunday Event on February 12, 2006. We have been able to build the program each year, and hope to surpass last year’s numbers: 412 volunteers at 34 sites across the state and assisted 1265 students in completing their FAFSA’s. Total attendance, including family members, was just over 2300. Thanks to Greg Guzman and Claudia Wenzel, who chaired the College Goal Sunday committee, and to all the volunteers and site coordinators.

The 2005-06 Leadership Training Committee is chaired by Cheryl Willard and Steve England. They are working hard at updating and planning our third Leadership Training for the coming year, which will include a two-day workshop in the fall, and continued training at our Winter and Spring Conferences. The Leadership Training is open to all new professionals in the organization, and is offered every other year. Participants are nominated by their Directors, or self-nominate, and only 20-25 are chosen for the Training. Past participants have become very involved in committee work for OASFAA, and many have run for different offices over the past few years. We are confident that this will hold true for the upcoming 2005-06 class.
