Summary of Activities:
I am pleased to report that an extremely successful 2006 MASFAA
Summer Institute was conducted on the campus of Baldwin Wallace
College from Saturday June 17th through Thursday June 22nd, 2006.
We had a total of 87 attendees representing the many facets of
our profession to include college access staff, lenders and guarantors,
and numerous financial aid professionals from the MASFAA region
and beyond. A total of 8 participants commuted daily from the
greater Cleveland area, while the remaining 79 participants utilized
the on-campus resident hall accommodations.
Facilitating the training activities was a faculty of seasoned
MASFAA professionals including: Zina Haywood, Gateway Technical
College, Jamie Malone, US Department of Education, Lawrence Matthews,
Bluffton University, Cynthia Van Pelt, Eastern Michigan University,
Michele Wade, The Ohio State University, and Dave Woodward, Education
Finance Partners. Working behind the scenes to ensure smooth daily
operation of the workshop was our dedicated Site Committee which
included Val Kepner, Oberlin College, Michiale Schneider, USA
Funds Services and Cheryl Willard, Baldwin- Wallace College. A
special note of thanks go to our guest speakers: Howard Thomas,
Walsh College, Tally Hart, The Ohio State University, Terry Everson,
Student Loan Xpress, Brad Meyer, The Ohio State University, and
Roger Eldridge, Student Loan Xpress for sharing with the group
their expertise.
The Institute also appears to have been a financial success when
reviewing the following:
