MASFAA Long Range
Plan
Submitted by Howard Thomas, Past
President

Several
years ago, MASFAA developed a five-year plan to give guidance
to the Executive Council. The last five-year plan expired this
year. The Association Governance Committee discussed the current
plan and decided that MASFAA should do a thorough assessment of
the environment and use that information to rethink the five year
planning process.
The first step was to survey the membership. I shamelessly stole
from the SASFAA membership survey and the survey was posted on
the website in the spring. In addition to active members, retired
members and non-members were asked to complete the survey. 242
people completed the survey and preliminary results are being
posted on the MASFAA website.
In addition to a survey of the membership, the Association Governance
Committee also felt that a long range planning retreat was in
order. Invitations to the retreat were sent to the members of
the Association Governance committee, state association presidents,
two Outstanding New Professional award winners, and two experienced
MASFAA members. Tara Telfair from the University of Virginia was
brought in to facilitate the retreat. The retreat took place on
August 1-2 at the Osthoff Lodge in Wisconsin and the Association
Governance Committee is in the process of taking the ideas from
the retreat and updating the long range plan.
The final long range plan will be presented at the October Executive
Council meeting in Des Moines and will be presented to the membership
at that time.
